"GTR is like the ‘Live or Memorex’ ads from when I was a kid. ‘Is it a miked amp or GTR?’ I’ll never tell......and you’ll never know!"

Raised and based in Atlanta, David Harris heard music, melodies, and stories in his head as a child, and does to this day. Best known for his work with John Mayer, he has had the opportunity to write, play and/or produce for an extraordinary range of artists ranging from Dave Matthews, Cassandra Wilson, and Widespread Panic to Santana, and Dionne Farris.

Initially inspired by blues players like Son House and Robert Johnson, Harris was later influenced by a wide range of musicians including Parliament/Funkadelic, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, and Prince. After experimenting with drums, piano and other instruments in his teens, he began his on-going relationship with the guitar, which continues to be his primary instrument, although he has often played other instruments on recordings.

In 1991 Harris co-founded the band Follow for Now in the hopes of creating a sound that combined all the influences that had been shaping his musical vision. The group, whose music showed influences ranging from Motown to thrash metal, released one critically-acclaimed album on Chrysalis before disbanding. Later, he was signed to Brendan O’Brien’s Columbia imprint in 1997 and began to spread his wings as an artist, writer, and producer. After two Elektra releases with The Brand New Immortals, Harris ventured out on his own, and has since put out two well-received solo albums, 2003’s Soulstice and 2006’s The Bittersweet.
